It's Not All Downhill From Here

There's some up-hill happening too - but I have to admit that going downhill is WAY more fun - and way less work!

Yes, I am talking about my new bicycle.

Tonight I had it out for "official" ride number two - another 7 KM ride - OK, *mostly* ride.  There was some walking involved in the uphill part.  But the result was awesomeness squared!

Part One of the Awesomeness was that Jasmine was running full out all the way back down to the car - I think I actually tired her out - and she takes a LOT of work to tire out.  Watching her run was the main thrill on the initial awesomeness.  Her ears flatten and she just flies - it's a beautiful thing to watch - and even more so when I was beside her while she was moving so fast.

Part Two of the Awesomeness was that I was whizzing downhill so fast that the wind was making my eyes water and I had an overwhelming urge to laugh and also to make a loud "WHEEEEEE" sound as I was riding.  I held back from that, but only just barely. I wanted to throw my arms out to my sides and ride no-hands... can't do that on a gravel road - the risk of my wiping out is still way too high, but I finished my ride with a huge smile on my face.

I had forgotten how much fun it is to ride a bike.  How free it feels to be flying that fast.  I also forgot how quickly tired my legs and hips get - but that will ease off, I am sure. I'm looking forward to the day that I can ride the full 3.5 KM out (and up hill) without stopping to walk because I am tired.  I am looking forward to seeing what's over that next hump when I am comfortable with the 7 KM route I have been riding. I am looking forward to taking her out to Seal Bay to ride the trails there - it's a lot closer to home and once that park re-opens, I am hopeful we can go a couple of times a day - one for a bike ride and one for a walk. i am just plain looking forward to my next adventure on my bike!

With love across the waters,
